The Experiment

This is my grocery experiment. I have a family of 4 and although I am a bargain shopper and couponer (is that even a word?), I still find myself spending too much on groceries. So I'm challenging myself to spend only $40 a week to feed my family delicious and healthy meals.

The rules: My $40 budget includes all food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. It excludes, dog food, and food items for entertaining.

Each week I will post what I bought and how much I spent. I will also be posting what I'm making. I've heard so many people say that it is impossible to feed a family good healthy food on a small budget like $40 a week. I want to prove those people wrong. A lot of people think that coupons are all for junky processed foods, and that you can't save on "real" food. That's just not true.

You will see some processed food on my grocery list. When I can get things for free with my coupons I will buy them, even if I won't eat them, and pass them on to someone who will eat them. Most of what I make is gluten free (my daughter and I have Celiac Disease), so a lot of processed food is out of the question for us anyways. I do buy some gluten items (such as bread) for my husband and other daughter.

If you have any money saving tips or suggestions please feel free to share them. I welcome the feedback. I hope that what you read here will encourage you to challenge yourself to spend less at the grocery store too!
